Ex President Guillermo Endara dies at age 73

Ex President Guillermo Endara died last night at 7:10 pm at his home in Punta Paitilla of a mild heart attack. Guillermo "cuchungo" Endara is remembered by all panamanians as having taken panama out of a dictatorship ruling and bringing democracy to Panama. Guillermo Endara led the country of Panama from 1989 to 1994 after the US ousted strongman Manuel Antonio Noriega in the much publicized US "Just Cause" Invasion.
Many of Panama's top political figures visited his residence to pay their condolences to ex president Endara's immediate family and wife Ana Mae Diaz de Endara. Ricardo Martinelli mentioned how Guillermo Endara was a great man, a simple man, a man that knew how to turn the page of history and move forward and not wallow in the past. Also visiting the residence of the ex president were ex president Martin Torrijos, PRD party leader and ex candidate against Guillermo Endara, Balbina Herrera and Vice President Juan Carlos Varela as well as Ministry of Finance Alberto Vallarino among other political figures.
Tomorrow the funeral will be held in Casco Viejo at 10:00 a.m. at the Catedral Sept 30, 2009. A national holiday has been declared by president Ricardo Martinelli and the country will be in mourning for 3 days. President Guillermo Endara will be remembered by all as a simple man who lead Panama out of a dictatorship regime and into the democratic state that panama is today.
